Schools in Henderson -- How to Make Sure Your Kids Get the Best Education

If you're moving into your Henderson apartment with your kids, you're probably very curious about the local schools.

Here are 4 tips to help you navigate the schools in Henderson:

1. Consider the variety

If you're thinking about enrolling your kids in public school in Henderson, you'll see that there are 8 elementary schools, 2 middle schools, but only 1 high school.

Luckily, your kids can customize their education at Henderson County High School, since the school is home to nearly two dozen sports teams and three dozen extracurricular organizations. Whether your kids love football, technology, farming, or something else entirely, they'll have plenty of options to choose from.

You'll be happy to learn that all of Henderson's public schools scored higher than the Kentucky average on the 2017 State Assessment. So no matter which side of town you live in, your kids will get a great public education!

2. Check out the private options

If you're considering sending your kids to private school, you only have one choice inside the Henderson city limits -- Holy Name of Jesus Catholic School, which has students from pre-kindergarten through eighth grade.

If you're OK with sending your kids to school in Evansville, there are four private schools there. One, Reitz Memorial High School, is a Catholic high school.

3. See if your kids are interested in Super Saturdays

Western Kentucky University is nearly 100 miles from Henderson, but it may be worth the drive if your kids are really passionate about math, science, art, history, writing, music, or performance. Twice a year -- in the Fall and in the Winter -- WKU offers four-week Super Saturday courses for kids who are gifted and talented in these areas. Not only will your kids get to learn more about the things they love, they'll be surrounded by other kids who have the same interests.

Kids between 1st and 8th grades can sign up for Super Saturdays, and one four-week session will cost you $80.

4. Don't ignore what happens after graduation

Do your kids dream of getting a college education? They don't have to leave Henderson to get it! That's because this city is home to Henderson Community College and a satellite campus of Murray State University.

If your kids are willing to commute into Evansville from your Henderson apartment, they can enroll at the University of Evansville or the University of Southern Indiana at Evansville. Head a little further east, and you'll find Oakland City University, which specializes in undergraduates and busy adults who want to go back to school.
