5 of the Best Attractions in Owensboro

Located on the southern banks of the Ohio River, Owensboro's natural charm is the perfect backdrop for fun. Whether you're into food, music, history, or all of the above, you'll love living in Owensboro!

Head just a few minutes from your apartment, and you'll be able to check out all of these great attractions:

1. The International Bluegrass Music Museum

If you're going to live in the Bluegrass State, you owe it to yourself to check out the local music! The museum will teach you all about the history of Bluegrass music, but the most fun happens when the locals pull out their instruments for a spontaneous jam session.

Want to make sure you get to see the locals jam? Head to the open-air terrace next to the museum on Friday evenings between May and September for the "Friday After 5" free concerts. Not only will you get to hear some great music, but you'll also get a great view of the Ohio River.

2. Reid's Orchard

There's plenty more fun to be had even after the summer winds down. One of the local favorites is Reid's Orchard. This family-run orchard is home to all kinds of fresh fruit and vegetables, but be sure to come visit in October for the annual Apple Festival. The Orchard sits on Owensboro's northeastern corner, but it's only a short drive from most Owensboro apartment complexes.

3. Any of the local parks

If you love hiking or jogging, you'll love having an apartment in Owensboro! That's because the city is home to a number of great parks -- Smothers Park, Yellow Creek Park, Legion Park, and Panther Creek Park. Or, if you're more of a biking enthusiast, head up to the Rudy Mines Mountain Bike Trails at Ben Hawes Park. No matter which one you pick, you'll get a gorgeous taste of nature right here in the city.

4. Green River Distillery

Louisville may get the bulk of the attention when it comes to Kentucky Bourbon, but Owensboro has its own bragging rights! The Green River Distillery has been producing Kentucky's favorite adult beverage since 1885. While the brick siding dates back decades, the inside of the distillery is state-of-the-art. You can tour the distillery and see exactly how they make more than 32,000 barrels of Kentucky bourbon every year.

5. Preservation Station

Owensboro is home to a number of antique shops, but Preservation Station is the biggest. Located inside an old brick schoolhouse, Preservation Station is home to everything from jewelry, to home décor, to vintage farm tools. And on the first weekend of every month, they showcase extra vendors, so it's the perfect place to shop til you drop!
